Special Olympics: There's a champion in all of us!

Founded in the United States in 1958, Special Olympics is an organization that hosts the Special Olympics Games. What makes them unique? The athletes have intellectual disabilities, such as Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and others. Today, Special Olympics brings together 5 million athletes in 172 countries and is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Its motto: There’s a champion in all of us!

In 2024, Azergo entered into a partnership with Special Olympics based on shared values and goals:

  • Combating Stereotypes Associated with Disabilities
  • Promoting a more inclusive society, whether in the realm of sports or in the workplace
  • Promote interactions between people “with” and “without” disabilities, in the worlds of sports and work
  • To demonstrate that anyone can excel in their sport or profession if they have the right resources

“At Special Olympics, we believe in the transformative power of sports. Sports develop motor skills and help combat a sedentary lifestyle. They strengthen mental resilience, self-esteem, and confidence. Sports foster social connections, friendship, and solidarity, and help combat isolation.”

This partnership initially includes a financial donation of €20,000, to fund, in particular, health and fitness programs and the organization of the National Games. In a second phase, it will result in Azergo employees’ participation in several sporting events throughout France, either as volunteers or athletes, from February 2024 throughthe National Games in July.

The11th edition of the National Games will take place in Décines-Charpieu (in the Lyon region) from July1 to 5, 2024. This event will bring together 1,500 athletes “with” and “without” disabilities to compete together in unified sports: soccer, basketball, swimming, judo, pétanque, tennis, and track and field.
