"Islands of the Future" in Ardèche: Azergo, a Sponsor of the ONF

Since its founding in 2007, Azergo has always strived to operate as a responsible company—that is, in a way that benefits society, the economy, and the environment. Recognizing the need to protect forests in the current climate context, Azergo is supporting the ONF in 2025 by becoming a sponsor of the ONF-Agir pour la forêt Fund as part of a project to create “islands of the future.”

The ONF at a Glance

The National Forestry Office (ONF)is the agency responsible for managing France’s public forests. It manages state-owned forests and forests owned by local authorities, integrating environmental protection, natural resource production, and public access into its mission. Innovation is an integral part of the solutions implemented by the ONF, as evidenced by the network of “islands of the future.”

The Islands of the Future

Today, forests are facing such a rapid acceleration of climate change that many tree species are unable to adapt and are now at risk. To help the forests of tomorrow adapt to climate change, the ONF is gradually establishing “islands of the future”—open-air laboratories designed to test the adaptive capabilities of new tree species. These islands will guide the work of forest managers and ensure the long-term sustainability of forests.

The Roiffieux Project in Ardèche

Launched in 2025, the “Islands of the Future” project in the Roiffieux communal forest in Ardèche is led by the ONF with support from Azergo, through the ONF-Agir pour la forêt Fund, as part of a corporate sponsorship initiative. In the fall of 2025, 1,300 trees will be planted over an area of one hectare to test two species: the Salzmann pine and the Douglas fir.

By fully funding this €20,900 project, Azergo is aligning itself with the ONF’s commitment to innovation and research and hopes to contribute to the preservation of tomorrow’s forests.
